How Mother Nature Creates Diamonds
Lab created diamonds take nature’s gem-forming process and compacts it into a nanosecond in geologic time. The result is a glittering gem just as beautiful as nature’s creation, but without the multi-million year wait — and without the destructive and dangerous mining practices used to extract these rare beauties from the earth.
Diamonds are formed deep within the Earth, 75 to 120 miles below the surface. Diamonds are created from pre-existing rocks in the Earth’s upper mantle that have been forced toward the planet’s hot core by temperature changes. Rocks in the Earth’s crust contain an abundance of carbon atoms. As these rocks are forced deeper into the Earth, they melt and form new rocks. Under the right conditions, heavy pressure will cause carbon atoms in the melted rock to bond and build diamond crystals as the rock cools. Only rarely do the necessary conditions occur in concert, which is why diamonds are such a rarity.
But it’s not just the formation of diamond crystals that is rare. Diamond deposits may take thousands to millions of years to reach the surface of the Earth where they can be discovered by man. Diamond deposits are pushed to the surface in “pipes” called Kimberlite Pipes or Blue Ground. These pipes are actually narrow trenches through which hot volcanic gases once belched. Geologists tell us that the diamonds being mined today were first forced to the surface in pipes about 2.5 billion years ago. Mother Nature’s most recent diamond delivery was a mere 45 million years ago.
Diamonds are also found in river beds, the result of alluvial deposits from glacial activity. Diamonds found in alluvial deposits most likely came from kimlerlite pipes in mountains that have been scraped and eroded by glaciers and weather and thousands of years. Diamonds found in fields as they are at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas are actually being plucked from ancient alluvial fans dating to prehistoric glacial activity.
Mother Nature may have to toil for millions of years to create diamonds and bring them to the surface, but CZ diamonds can be found at high quality online wholesalers like PehnecGems and shipped right to your door. No need to wait millions of years! Visit our website at www.Pehnec.com.
