Fit for a King (of Rock & Roll)
There is an incredible new exhibit open at Graceland which gives the public an intimate look into the fashion of Elvis Presley. Elvis was, without a doubt, the biggest trend setter of his day (and likely one of the biggest ever) and this homage to the King’s fashion lets visitors take it all in – the extravagant clothes, the colorful accessories and the incredible jewelry.
Included in the items on display is one of the King’s favorite pieces of jewelry, a stunning 16 carat ring that allowed Elvis to proudly display the initials of his motto “Taking care of Business.” The centerpiece of this ring is a gorgeous 11+ carat solitaire perched above the initials TCB and edged by diamond lighting bolts on either side. The bold piece is said to have cost Elvis around thirty five thousand dollars more than forty years ago and it is certain that that figure would be much higher today – even if the King of Rock & Roll hadn’t been the owner.
The exhibit is scheduled to run until the beginning of 2012 and one thing is for sure – there will be plenty of interest in affordable replications of just about everything on display from Elvis’ world of fashion. The clothes and some of the accessories might be difficult to mimic closely with the same quality as that on display, but with loose cz and lab gems purchased from wholesalers, beautiful and affordable re-creations of the jewelry could be a snap.
Cubic zirconia mirrors the look of natural diamonds so well, that Elvis Presley himself would probably be proud to sport a cz version of his “Taking care of Business” ring if he were still around today.
