Care and Cleaning Tips for Cubic Zirconia Jewelry
Cubic Zirconia is a durable, synthetic gemstone that sparkles like diamonds, but with a lower price tag. Cubic Zirconia loose stones flash with the brilliance and fire of diamonds.
Like any gemstone, Cubic Zirconia needs to be properly cleaned to maintain its beauty. Cubic Zirconia loose stones may be set in 14k or 18k gold settings or pure platinum, so cleaning needs to be done carefully and gently to prevent scratches or other damage.
Like its diamond counterpart, Cubic Zirconia will eventually lose their flash and fire, dulling from a combination of environmental factors if not cleaned on a regular basis. These factors include dirt, lotions and sprays, body oils, perfumes, soaps and anything else with which you come in contact.
There are various ways to clean your Cubic Zirconia loose stones and jewelry. Start with a soft, lint-free cloth. A piece of flannel or soft cotton cloth will do just fine. Gently wipe away surface dirt and grime and polish the gemstones. Use a back and forth movement as circular strokes may cause scratch damage to the surface.
Use jewelry cleaner to further clean the Cubic Zirconia in jewelry or Cubic Zirconia loose stones. You can make a jewelry cleaning solution at home. Start with three parts warm water, add regular household ammonia, mix, for at least fifteen to twenty minutes, and then soak your Cubic Zirconia gemstones in the solution.
After the soak, take a toothbrush with soft bristles and gently rub all sides of the jewelry and stones. This loosens all the built up dirt, oils and grime. Then give your jewelry a warm-water rinse. Use the soft cloth to dry the gemstones. If the dirt layers are heavy, repeat the soak, rub and rinse again. Your Cubic Zirconia jewelry will now sparkle just like a diamond!
